KIDAPAWAN CITY, (PNA) — Residents here continue donating funds for the victims of earthquake in Bohol in support to Mayor Joseph Evangelista’s fund drive dubbed as “Tabang Bohol.”
Aside from accepting donations, the city government launched on All Saint’s Day a “Tabang Bohol” Zombie Run and Walk for a cause which generated more than P200,000 cash from participants who were asked to shell out P100 as registration for the walk for a cause.
Evangelista, who led the event, was grateful to the more than 1,000 participants who joined the fund raising activity and donated financial aid to the victims of the quake that rocked Bohol and Central Visayas recently.
He said anyone who wants to donate can still walk-in at the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for their donations until the day of the Relief Mission.
“This is our simple, yet practical way of extending help to our kababayans in Bohol. I am thankful that our invitation was very well received not only by our city officials and employees but also the public as well,” he said of the walk for a cause.
Many Boholanos migrated to this city in the 1960s and established here. One village was also named after Bohol due to number of Boholanos in that part of the city.
The amount collected in the walk for a cause was added to the P200,000 that the mayor had sourced out from the Quick Response Fund of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Manangement Fund of 2013.
Evangelista said he will ask the Sangguniang Panlungsod to allocate the funds next week.
He said the city government is sending a relief team to personally extend the assistance.
“I will be meeting the members of the Kaliwat sa Bohol on November 5, to plan out our move to help finalize the relief mission to Bohol,” the mayor said, adding that many Kidapawenios have relatives in Bohol who were severely affected by the natural calamity.
Evangelista said the Tabang Bohol hopes to raise at least P500,000 to be sent to Bohol anytime this week.
