CEBU CITY, (PNA) — Police said the resumption of classes Monday in Cebu City and throughout Cebu Province was peaceful.
Hundreds of policemen were deployed in different schools in Cebu as classes resumed after a two-week suspension following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake which struck and ravaged Central Visayas last Oct. 15.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, said the deployment of policemen in schools was part of the Oplan Balik Eskwela (Oplan Back to School).
Gillamac said the campaign is initiated by the Department of Education (DepEd) and enforced in coordination with other agencies, communities and interest groups.
In Cebu City, the police also increased their presence in seaports and bus terminals as students from different provinces return to Cebu.
Senior Supt. Noli Romana, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director, said they coordinated with school heads in the deployment of policemen.
Romana said that aside from the students, many people are coming back to Cebu City to work after the long holiday.
