TACLOBAN CITY, (PNA) –Migration of all government website to a single template to prevent hacking is up for completion by mid-2014.
Monchito B. Ibrahim, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology –Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO), said in a recent news briefing here that their office is now working on developing a single template for the Government Web Hosting Service (GWHS).
This is to head the directive of President Benigno Aquino III under Administrative Order No. 39 issued July 2012.
“The first step to make us achieve a stage where it will be very difficult for anybody to hack any government any website is to develop a single template,” Ibrahim said.
The official said they have been developing the systems since mid-September this year. Actual migration will be done before the end of the year and in 2014.
Ibrahim said the GWHS will host the websites of national government agencies, government financial institutions, government-owned or controlled corporations, websites of inter-agency collaborations, programs and projects.
As ordered by Aquino, websites that had been defaced or rendered inaccessible by attackers in the last six months will be given priority.
On Sunday, at least 38 government websites, including the Office of the Ombudsman, were defaced by hackers who claimed to be opposition to the pork barrel system. The group posted a message calling on Filipinos to join a protest against corruption.
Since last year, government websites have been attacked by hackers who were angry over diplomatic disputes those upset at a restrictive Cybercrime Law.
