TAGBILARAN CITY, (PNA) -–The province of Bohol through Governor Edgar Chatto on Monday expressed sincere gratitude to countless generous donors for their help and aids, cash or in kind, to the victims of earthquake as more and more aids are coming in.
The governor relayed his thanks in behalf of the Boholanos as the province of Pangasinan donated a check worth P 2 million during the 117th birth anniversary of Boholano Carlos Polestico Garcia, the 4th president of the Republic of the Philippines.
Pangasinan provincial board member Clemente Arboleda handed over to Gov. Chatto the check after his short talk of the program. He said the amount allocated for Bohol was supposedly only a million and the other million for Cebu province as it is not spared from the dreaded earthquake that struck Central Visayas on Oct. 15.
BM Arboleda, who represented Gov. Amado Espino, Jr., said that Cebu province decided not to have a slice of the donation from Pangasinan, and instead, suggested to add its share for Bohol who needed it most, thus the P 2-M for Bohol.
During the same occasion, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) represented by general manager Nigel Paul Villarete handed over to the governor an amount of P1 million as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Likewise, Aksyon Kaliwat Bol-anon of Cagayan de Oro City represented by Jay Valleser also gave to the governor cash donation for the victims. He said that the city government and the province of Misamis Oriental are slated to chip cash assistance to the tune of PhP2 million and P1.5 million, respectively, for the same purpose.
Gov. Chatto cited virtues of then President Garcia as strength for Boholanos to rise up again from rubble of the earthquake. “Resiliency, positivity and faith in God” will guide the Boholanos to rebuild again as recovery efforts, especially the opening of road blocks to access relief goods and other form of help to remote quake-laden areas, are underway.”
He clarified that all cash donations are managed by the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) while those coming from private sectors are taken care of by the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), apparently for transparency and accountability purposes.
