BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson will the lead the inauguration rites for the 10-kilometer access road to the Bacolod-Silay Airport on Nov. 15.
Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said the date was agreed upon during his recent meeting with Singson and Negros Occidental Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez.
Puentevella said that Benitez worked for the completion of the project which he started when he was still the congressman of this city.
Silay City is under the jurisdiction of the Third Congressional District.
The opening of the airport access road will significantly reduce travel time from Bacolod going to the airport in Barangay Bagtic, and also to Silay City proper, Puentevella said.
The P404-million Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road Project is a 10.12-kilometer two-lane road, spanning six bridges, seven intersections, a drainage, and slope protection structures.
Benitez had earlier said the feasibility study, and the technical and financial assistance for the project is funded by the Republic of Korea through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund.
At present, motorists pass through the Bacolod Coastal Road-North Section to reach the airport, located 15 kilometers northeast of Bacolod, in 30 to 45 minutes. The construction of the alternative access road is expected to reduce travel time from Bacolod to the airport by 15 minutes.
