MANILA, (PNA) –The Palace on Monday has ordered Philippine embassy officials in Saudi Arabia to ensure that undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the oil-rich Kingdom are accorded a humane treatment.
At a press briefing, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr said “We have tasked the consulate general in Jeddah as well as the embassy in Riyadh to ensure that our citizens, our OFWs, are accorded just and humane treatment.”
He also said the government is closely monitoring the situation there amid reports that undocumented workers were being hurt and abused.
Saudi authorities have set November 3 as the deadline for undocumented workers to fix their papers or they would be forced to leave.
Coloma said the Department of Foreign Affairs is fast tracking the issuance of passports and travel documents of the overseas Filipino workers.
