BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — The city government has allocated some P1.37-million for hosting the 2013 Philippine Youth Game-Batang Pinoy National Finals slated Nov. 19-23 here.
On the request of Mayor Monico Puentevella, the City Council approved the amount intended for repair and maintenance of billeting centers for athletes.
Puentevella said the restoration of dilapidated rooms and comfort rooms, and installation of water connections should be given priority.
The National Finals, co-hosted by Bacolod City with Negros Occidental province, will gather about 8,000 athletes.Both the city and the province already hosted the Batang Pinoy nationals twice – in 1998 and 2000.
Puentevella is considered the father of Batang Pinoy since he founded the grassroots sports development program for 15 years old and under during his stint as commissioner of Philippine Sports Commission in the late 1990’s.
