TUGUEGARAO CITY, (PNA) — Cagayan province’s northern towns have remained literally in the dark a day after strong winds and heavy rains toppled power lines and trees.
However, Lilibeth Gaydowen, Northern Luzon corporate communications chief, said that they have been rehabilitating line segments of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in the northern towns of Cagayan which were knocked down by gusty winds and heavy rains.
The NGCP earlier shut down power supply of the entire franchise areas of Cagayan Electric Cooperative 2 — Buguey, Sta. Teresita, Gonzaga, Aparri and Santa Ana — and parts of Cagelco 1 areas in Alcala, Amulung and Iguig.
The power supply is likely to be restored in three days.
“We are now assessing the extent of the line damage as our linemen are patrolling the areas for immediate repair,” she said.
She said that the linemen are also looking for other routes going to other affected lines as fallen trees and toppled posts have barred traffic in some national roads.
Gaydowen, however, clarified that the brownouts suffered last night in Ilagan City have been attributed to the local electric cooperative ISELCO 2 and not NGCP “as our lines are in normal condition there.”
