CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, (PNA) — A prisoner jailed for a rape case at the San Fernando Municipal Police Office (SFMPO) in Barangay Baybay Dagat, San Fernando, Masbate, escaped when he was sent by a police officer to fetch water Saturday morning.
A report reaching Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Bicol police chief, identified the suspect as Ronnie Bartolay of Barangay Buenavista, San Fernando, Masbate.
The report said the suspect was sent by PO2 Richard Solano to fetch water from a source some 15 meters away from the police office at about 5:45 a.m. when he escaped.
Solano realized what happened when Bartolay failed to return with the water he was supposed to get.
The report said Solano sent Bartolay without the knowledge of the jail guard, PO3 Joselito Duano, who is in charge of the prison.
Members of the SFMPO immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation against the escaped prisoner.
Solano is now under investigation.
