BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) – A fire destroyed 10 houses and partially damaged four others in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 in this city Friday night, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here said.
No one was reported injured.
Chief Insp. Bartolome Beliran, city fire marshal, said in a radio interview Saturday that based on initial investigation, the fire was caused by a lighted candle left unattended.
The blaze was believed to have started in the house of Mary Jane Dadivas at around 10:40 pm.
Beliran said the destruction was estimated at P300,000.
The fire chief said the BFP-Bacolod dispatched five firetrucks to the area a few minutes after they received the fire call.
Beliran reminded anew house owners to always be cautious when lighting a candle at home.
“We should always be careful especially when there are occasions. Don’t be complacent or negligent,” he added.
