18 out of 24 top endorsers are PHL’s top taxpayers — BIRKris M. Crismundo

Posted on October 30, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) named 18 top endorsers who were included among the top 500 income taxpayers in 2012.

This was revealed in BIR’s weekly print advertisement to promote correct tax payment.

Among the country’s celebrities with most number of endorsements in 2011, as cited by Yes! Magazine, is the President’s youngest sister Kris Aquino who was ranked as top six individual taxpayer in 2012.

The female Aquino paid a total of P44.9 million for her regular income tax in 2012.

John Lloyd Cruz, the top 2 endorser named by Yes!, is the country’s 8th largest income taxpayer with P42.8 million tax payment in 2012.

The top 3 endorser, Sharon Cuneta, follows Cruz at rank 9 with tax payment reaching P42 million.

Also, among the 18 top endorsers included in BIR’s top individual taxpayers list are Piolo Pascual (34th); Kim Chiu (39th); Robin Padilla (60th); Sarah Geronimo (59th); Judy Ann Santos (32nd); Vic Sotto (89th); Anne Curtis (50th); Angel Locsin (38th); Boy Abunda (110th); KC Concepcion (311th); Dingdong Dantes (216th); Gerald Anderson (287th); Bea Alonzo (44th); Michael V. (118th); and Derek Ramsay (68th).

Yes! has 24 celebrities in its 2011 top endorsers list, hence, six out of 24 top endorsers are not the country’s top taxpayers.

These includes Carmina Villaroel, Zoren Legaspi, Marian Rivera, Ryan Agoncillo, Jericho Rosales, and Ai-Ai Delas Alas.

The BIR clarified that the list is not intended to show tax evasion practices but to encourage tax compliance.

It was also explained that the top endorser list of Yes! was not based on the income of the celebrities but the number of their endorsements.
