NNC lauds Maasin City for CROWN Award

Posted on October 30, 2013

TACLOBAN CITY, (PNA) — The National Nutrition Council (NNC) here through its program coordinator Segundina Devota-Dilao has expressed felicitations to the people of Maasin City and lauded them for winning the 2012 CROWN Maintenance Award in Nutrition.

The awarding ceremony will take place on Tuesday the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

Maasin City will receive a plaque and cash incentive of P250,000 and a chance to vie for the highest national nutrition award, the Honor Nutrition Award (NHA) next year.

The prestigious Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award is a testament to the efforts of the Nutrition Council of Maasin City in eradicating poverty. The council is headed by Mayor Maloney L. Samaco.

The CROWN Award is given to the local government units for outstanding programs in nutrition for three consecutive years in their respected regions.

“Maasin City, which is a 4th class city, has demonstrated excellent implementation of its nutrition program consistently. I would like to commend and extend my congratulations to Mayor Samaco, other members of the city nutrition council, Barangay leaders, Barangay Nutrition Scholars. I would like to mention also the members of HimSog, the media arm of NNC-8, for reporting good nutrition practices of the city,” Dilao said.

She added, it takes political will to implement good nutrition program in the community, much more it takes more than efforts to implement it.

“It takes a good heart and a lot of caring, if leaders take serious business in the delivery of nutrition and health services to its people,” Dilao said.

Dilao further added that “just like the municipality of Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte, even if it’s a 6th class municipality, they rise above all difficulties to curb its malnutrition and bagged the highest National Honor Award and won P500,000. The amount was used by Limasawa Mayor Melchor Petracorta, to further sustain its good nutrition in the municipality.”

The city’s battlecry “Atong Syudad, Atong Mahalon” (Our City – We Should Love), is a true collaboration between leaders and its people towards a healthy populace.
