CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, (PNA) –- Nine inmates serving major cases escaped early Wednesday from their cells in the provincial jail in Tinangis Penal Farm in Barangay Tinangis, Pili, Camarines Sur.
A report of Senior Supt. Ramiro Bausa, Camarines Sur provincial police director, to Chief Supt. Victor Deona, Police Regional Office 5 chief, identified the escaped prisoners as Rolly Cabaltera, Roland Negrido, Juan Polidario, Gilford Embile, Muriel San Joaquin, Richard Tele, Erwin Capuz, Eugena Brutas and Cea Kalim.
Bausa said the prisoners escaped at about 2:15 a.m., Wednesday, by sawing off the metal bars of their cells and escaped under darkness towards different directions.
The escaped inmates were serving cases of rape, murder, illegal possession of firearms, robbery, carnapping and illegal drugs.
Fellow prisoners said the nine prisoners had already a plan to escape.
Bausa said the prison guards learned only of the escape when one prisoner who did not go with the group squealed.
The jail guards and elements of the Pili Municipal Police Office are in hot pursuit of the escaped prisoners.
Authorities are now investigating how the prisoners were able to smuggle in the saw used in the escape.
