BANGKOK, (PNA/Bernama) — The Ministry of Public Health says no Thai Muslims returning from this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia were reported to have contracted the deadly coronavirus, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.
Dr. Sopon Mekthon, director-general of the ministry’s Department of Disease Control, said health officials reported four female pilgrims who had recently returned from Mecca had lung infection but tests confirmed they were not infected by the virus.
A total of 4,561 pilgrims were scheduled to have returned from Mecca on 42 flights at Narathiwat, Phuket and Hat Yai Airports from Oct 22 to 27.
Dr. Sopon said pilgrims who returned from Saudi Arabia will be closely monitored by the ministry for one month as part the government’s surveillance measures against the virus.
