ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here said the results of Monday’s village elections showed the people’s will and sentiment and must be respected for unity to take place in the barangays.
As he welcomed the winners here, Mabilog said the election results showed that the people voted for deserving candidates regardless of political affiliation.
The mayor said that barangay officials are given a sacred mandate by their respective constituents to serve with no personal gains.
A total of 3,934 candidates were listed in this city which has 180 barangays.
Candidates for barangay captain totaled 353 while those for kagawad reached 3,481.
Candidates for village chiefs in 64 villages were unopposed.
