KALIBO, Aklan, (PNA) — Two more violators of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban were arrested in Aklan province which brought to 20 the number of people arrested violating the ban since its implementation last September 28.
Arrested were identified as motorcycle-riding men Geny Fred Batoy, 34, and Nonito Panagsagan, 49, both residents of Barangay Buenavista, Nabas town, who were apprehended around 10 p.m. Sunday night.
Operatives of the Nabas Municipal Police Station found in Batoy’s possession a .38 caliber revolver while a butcher’s knife was seized from Panagsagan after they figured in a mishap in front of the town’s police station.
When the two fell from the motorcycle, a police officer came to their aid but the duo immediately recovered and sped away, prompting policemen to pursue them.
The suspects were then found with a firearm and a bladed weapon.
Both will be charged for violation of the Comelec resolution on gun ban, and for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and bladed weapon.
As of Oct. 28, 20 persons have been arrested for violation of the gun ban in Aklan, with 10 firearms and 10 bladed weapons confiscated.
Aklan so far ranks third in Western Visayas provinces in the number of violators of the gun ban which started Sept. 28 and will end Nov. 12, 2013.
