MANILA, (PNA) -– Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas on Tuesday reminded newly-elected barangays officials not to act as “bosses” and instead serve their constituents properly.
At a press conference, Roxas, borrowing the line of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, stressed that the ordinary people are the “bosses” under the present government.
Roxas reminded the newly-elected barangay officials that in seeking public office, they offered to serve the “bosses” or the ordinary people.
”I want to remind our newly-elected barangay officials that everyone of you, including us, presented our selves top serve our people, our boss. We did not seek election to lord over our barangays,” said Roxas.
”Always bear in mind that the people are the boss,” he added.
On Monday, the nationwide barangay elections was held and it was declared generally peaceful by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Roxas, as DILG chief, has supervisory powers over the barangays, the lowest unit of the government.
