Probe on in fiscal’s residence grenade explosion, bombings, strafing of village hall in Davao del Sur

Posted on October 28, 2013

DAVAO CITY, (PNA) — Police authorities are still looking into the motive of the grenade explosion inside a prosecutor’s house, the bombings of two polling centers and the strafing of a barangay (village) hall in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

At around 12:50 a.m. Monday, a loud explosion was heard inside a residential compound along Estrada St. in the village of Zone 2, Digos City where Davao del Sur Provincial Prosecutor Artemio Tajon resides.

Based on initial police investigation, a fragmentation grenade was lobbed at Tahon’s residence.

Police said the person who threw the grenade used a black pick-up truck as get-away vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Last Saturday, unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects strafed the village hall in Matti, Digos City and wounded village watchman Larry Lemios.

At around 10:50 p.m. of the same day, a Molotov bomb exploded inside the Don Mariano Elementary School in the village of Zone 3 of the same city.

Later in the night at 11:20, another Molotov bomb exploded inside the Isaac Abalayan Elementary School in the village of San Jose of the same city. The school was partially damaged in the incident.

Aside from the village elections, Davao del Sur is also holding a plebiscite for the creation of another province there.

Due to the incidents, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) had imposed a curfew in Digos City from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on October 27-29.
