POLANGUI, Albay, (PNA) — Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda was the first to cast his vote in Precinct No. 62-A in Barangay Centro Oriental here.
Salceda said he was at the polling precinct at about 6:50 a.m. or about minutes before the opening time of 7:00 a.m.
He said he has high respect and confidence on the candidates he voted for, that they will do the right thing for the interest of the barangay.
According to him, he has only two wishes for Monday’s election: First, peace in his province; and second, sufficient wisdom among the voters to guide them in their choice of the right candidates in their barangays, a barangay being the basic unit of the government.<“Those who will be voted will serve as the guide toward the right path and development in their respectuve areas,” Salceda said.
He said the winners need the support of the community.
So far, the conduct of the barangay elections in the whole region has been generally peaceful.
Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Police Regional Office 5 director, said based on the reports coming from the six provinces of Bicol, the elections were generally orderly and peaceful, except for a few incidents.
