KALIBO, Aklan, (PNA) — At least 50 voters in a precinct in Poblacion, New Washington town faced protests on Monday’s barangay (village) elections on allegations that they are not original residents of their villages.
As a result, the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) requested them to present valid identification cards before they were allowed to vote.
Those who failed to present valid ID cards were allowed to vote subject to minutes of the proceedings.
Crispin Gerardo of the Commission on Elections-New Washington said the questioned voters were registered for the barangay elections.
He said the incident was already recorded in the minutes of the proceedings.
“We will see first the result of the elections and if there are still more protests, we may conduct an investigation,” he added.
