ILOILO CITY, (PNA) -– Officials of this city hailed the move of senators to allocate their unused P3.18-billion Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) 2013 allocation to augment the calamity fund of the government.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that Resolution No. 14 sponsored by Senate President Franklin Drilon showed the total commitment of the senators in waiving their remaining PDAF for 2013.
The remaining funds created savings which President Benigno S. Aquino III may use as calamity fund for areas affected by typhoons “Labuyo” and “Santi,” the earthquake in Visayas, and the crisis in Zamboanga City. The Office of the President declared that only P1.37 billion of the P7.5-billion calamity fund is left.
Mabilog said the acts of the senators showed their statesmanship and love of country.
Echoing the mayor’s statement, Councilor Nielex Tupas said the senators’ joint act showed compassion for the victims of calamities which brought pain and sufferings and great losses to the economy and environment.
