LAOAG CITY, (PNA) -– Provincial Elections Officer Alipio Alonzo S. Castillo reported that no major incident was reported to his office from the opening till the closing of all precincts in the 557 barangays of the province at 3:00 p.m.
As of 4:00 p.m. Castillo expressed optimism that the same peaceful and orderly atmosphere will prevail till the last vote is counted.
He credited this peaceful situation to good preparations undertaken by all stakeholders to ensure successful village polls this year.
He added that upon the completion of the result of the election, all winners will be automatically proclaimed in their respective precincts.
At least 10,000 candidates from the 21 towns and two cities in the province vied for the positions of punong barangay and kagawad.
Meanwhile, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and his sister Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos cast their votes at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School in Batac City.
The two Marcoses arrived at about 10:42 a.m, Monday in the school to cast their votes.
Their mother, Rep. Imelda R. Marcos, was reported to be the first to cast her vote in that school.
In his message, Sen. Marcos called on all residents and candidates to keep calm while they are awaiting the results of the barangay election to help ensure peace and order.
