TACLOBAN CITY, (PNA) — The conduct of polls in three barangays of Samar province was postponed and instead will be held on Tuesday, according to regional director, Atty. Jose Nick Mendros of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Eastern Visayas.
Atty. Mendros said that a commotion due to the presence of armed men in barangays Dogongan in Jiabong; Bana-ao in Sta. Margarita and Gianboc in Gandara caused the postponement.
Dogongan has 319 registered voters; Bana-ao has 191 and Gianboc has more than 100, he added.
The affected villages are found in the remote areas of the said municipalities.
He added that the recommendation is “good as approved” thus they will be holding elections in Oct 29.
Meanwhile, Mendros said that the conduct of polls in Barangay San Antonio in Catubig, Northern Samar proceeded amid the snatching of the ballot box intended for the said village.
Police authorities though are still investigating the said incident.
The suspects fled to unknown direction bringing with them the ballot box that they forcibly took inside the classroom of San Antonio Elementary School Sunday evening.
