MANILA, (PNA) — Early voters were impressed by the reverence of several youths who made an improvised lift in carrying senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) at the start of the barangay election in Valenzuela City.
The youths asked the PWDs and the elderly to sit on their improvised lift and carried them to their voting precincts located at the higher floors of the Marulas Central School in Valenzuela City.
“We have no elevators here so we thought of improvising something so that senior citizens and persons with disabilities can vote conveniently,” said Christopher delos Santos, leader of the youth volunteers.
As early of 6:30 in Monday morning, he said they are already roaming around Marulas Central School to check how they can help the elderly and PWDs.
After learning that there is no special polling place for these special individuals at the ground floor, they immediately constructed the makeshift lift to help them reach their precincts at the higher floors.
“Hangang may bumuboto pong senior citizens at disabled hindi kami aalis upang buhatin sila paakyat at pababa (We will be on hand to carry up and bring down these senior citizens and disabled individuals until the close of voting this afternoon,” Delos Santos said.
