KIDAPAWAN CITY, (PNA) –- One was killed while another was wounded in an election related ambush in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao, officials said.
Mayor Zamsamin Ampatuan of Rajah Buayan said the ambush occurred at 10 a.m. about 200 meters away from Barangay Mileb Elementary School where voting was ongoing.
Police identified the victims as Naser Malang who was declared dead on arrival at a government hospital. Saudi Untong, another nephew of Datu Pingcol who was running for village chairman, was critically wounded.
Police said some candidates had an altercation inside the school polling precinct including Datu Pingcol.
Pingcol called on his nephews for reinforcement but were ambushed along a dirt road leading to the voting center.
The victims were brought to the Maguindanao provincial hospital in nearby Shariff Aguak town.
Elsewhere in the province, the balloting was smooth and orderly, Ampatuan said.
