KIDAPAWAN CITY, (PNA) — Two supporters of a candidate for village chairman in Maguindanao were critically wounded in an ambush Monday by suspected partisan groups, officials said.
Mayor Zamsamin Ampatuan of Rajah Buayan town said the ambush occurred around 10:00 a.m. about 200 meters away from Barangay Mileb Elementary School where voting was on going.
Ampatuan identified the victims as Saudi Untong alias “Idol” and Nasser Malang, both nephews of Datu Pingcol who is running for village chairman in Barangay Mileb.
Untong was wounded in the leg while Malang was hit in the stomach.
According to Ampatuan, some candidates had an altercation inside the polling precinct including Datu Pingcol.
Pingcol called his nephews for reinforcement but they were ambushed along a dirt road leading to the voting center.
The victims were rushed to the Maguindanao provincial hospital in nearby Shariff Aguak town.
Elsewhere in the province, the balloting was orderly, Ampatuan said.
