BAGUIO CITY, (PNA)–The city government has already allotted P700,000 for its yearly giant Christmas Tree to be lighted here on December 1 to signal the start of the Yuletide Season in this mountain resort whose prime industry is international tourism.
This was learned from City Councilor Elmer Datuin, chair of the city council committee on tourism, who said that other allotments are expected in the coming weeks as the city gears up for several Christmas activities here.
The giant Christmas tree here has been decorated with 100 colored bulbs for the last 32 years at the foot of Session Road until Christmas 2011.
For the first time in years, the aging Norfolk tree rested during Christmas 2012 as the city government, on suggestion of various environmental groups. It is among those first to be planted by the American soldiers who became the administrators and builders of this city in the early 1900s.
According to Datuin, the giant Christmas tree will be constructed at the top of the Session Road near the big commercial establishments but overlooking the Baguio Cathedral.
