CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, (PNA) — A city councillor on Monday has asked the Commissions on Audit (COA) to determine the unit price of a handheld radio acquired by the city government which many suspected to be overpriced.
City Councilor Ramon Tabor, chair of the city council’s police, fire, and public safety, said that the city mayor’s office bought handheld radios to augment communication equipment of the local police here at P 10,000 each.
In a special report to the city council, Tabor said that his committee believed that COA was the best agency that could determine whether the price of each of the handheld radio was fair.
According to Tabor, the total amount involved was P500,000 for a total of 50 handheld radios distributed to various police station precincts in the city.
Based on initial findings, a handheld radio costs only between P 3,500 and P 4,500 per unit, Tabor added.
He said his committee suspected that the handheld radios bought by the city government through the office of the city mayor were overpriced.
“My committee is not in the position to conclude that the handheld radios acquired by the city government in the amount of P 10,000 per unit was overpriced until an official finding of the COA could be obtained,” Tabor said.
