ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here has ordered sanitary inspectors to inspect all food outlets in the city to determine if they are using products approved by Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) under the Department of Health (DOH).
Mabilog said he has instructed the City Health Office (CHO) to advise food store owners to display their imported food products and to report immediately the status of food products used in restaurants and carinderias in the city.
Violators of the executive order will be subjected to non-renewal of business permit for not following the food safety regulations.
Mabilog said the DOH has confirmed that salmonella poisoning was the main cause of gastroenteritis in 11 persons and the death of one who were served tea drinks at the Dakasi Restaurant here last month.
Another case of alleged food poisoning also occurred at The Castle Hotel occupied by some 200 Korean students.
Health authorities ruled that severe case of stomach disorder caused some Korean students to seek medical attention.
