MANILA, (PNA) — The Supreme Court Tuesday disqualified with finality Marinduque Rep. Regina Reyes.
This was after the SC justices, during their deliberations Tuesday, dismissed the motion for reconsideration filed by Reyes seeking to reverse the earlier ruling of the SC disqualifying her to run in the May 13, 2013 elections.
In her motion, Reyes cited Section 17 of Article 6 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which provides that the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal has the sole jurisdiction over all electoral protests and the qualifications of a congressman.
The disqualification case against Reyes arose from the issue of her citizenship alleging that she is an American citizen.
The closest rival of Reyes is former Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, son of SC Associate Justice Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr.
Justice Velasco had inhibited himself from the case.
