Comelec sets special polls in Bohol, Zamboanga city on Nov. 25

Posted on October 22, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the special polls in Bohol and Zamboanga City on November 25.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the resolution is making its round in the offices of the Commission en banc members for their approval.

“Iikot pa kasi ‘yun para pirmahan nasa labas kasi kaming lahat… I announced that we agreed to hold the special poll on Nov. 25… all the details is in our resolution which will come out this afternoon or Wednesday morning,” he noted.

Brillantes said that one of the reasons for the postponement of the October 28 Barangay polls in Bohol was the earthquake that hit the province last Tuesday.

“We postponed it dahil sa earthquake tapos may continues aftershocks pa, tuloy tuloy. May mga school houses na hindi pa nacecertify na pwedeng gamitin at marami pang ibang reasons na naka enumerate sa reso,” he said.

Brillantes added that another reason why the village polls have been delayed since there is a need to concentrate on the rehabilitation and distribution of relief to those affected by the earthquake.

Earlier, the poll body has ordered the postponement of the village polls in Zamboanga City due to the recent encounter between government forces and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) who were alleged supporters of Nur Misuari.

Brillantes said they have decided to hold the special polls, five days before the newly elected barangay officials assume office to avoid a holdover.

The new Barangay captain and six kagawads will officially start their three-year term on November 30.
