MANILA, (PNA) — Six days after the the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that shook Central Visayas last Tuesday morning, massive aftershocks continued to jolt the region, particularly in the province of Bohol, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the magnitude-5.4 aftershock occurred at 7:03 a.m. with its epicenter traced some 34 kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City in Bohol.
The agency said the temblor was felt at Intensity 5 in San Isidro, Bohol, Intensity 4 in Metro Cebu and Intensity 3 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
As of 8:00 a.m. the agency recorded 2,238 aftershocks in Bohol.
In an interview, John Deximo, science research assistant of the Phivolcs Earthquake Monitoring Division, reiterated that these series of quakes are still expected to prevail in the “coming days or months.”
However, he noted that it will gradually become weaker and less frequent as weeks pass.
