MANILA, (PNA) –The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday the postponement of Barangay elections in the province of Bohol.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, however, said he did not specify the reason on the postponement in his announcement since they would issue a resolution on Tuesday.
“The reason to be specified in a formal resolution tomorrow (October 22),” he added in an interview.
Brillantes said that they are looking to hold the special elections in the said province within a month, together with the special polls in Zamboanga City.
Brillantes went to Bohol on Saturday to personally assessed the areas damaged by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the province Cebu last October 15.
“Ang recommendation nung dumating ako dun was partial. Marami talaga devastated area meron din mga pwede. Ang decision is whether partial or whole. Ang naging decision buo na lang,” he said.
With this, he noted that campaigning in the province would be stopped as they would issue new schedule for the special polls including the filing of certificate of candidacy (COCs), new campaign period, among others.
“Lalabas ang calendar of activities for the new election. Lahat ‘yun maapektuhan campaigning, filing of COCs, election period, prohibitions will be covered kaya nga magtatagal ng konti,” Brillantes explained.
