Jean-Polo breakup instigated by daughter?

Posted on July 27, 2008

PNS — In the presscon of Jean Garcia and Polo Ravales in “Loving You” held at the Century Imperial we were able to catch up with the stars at Starbucks. In the movie written by Fairline Raymundo and directed by Don Cuaresma, they star in a May-December kind of romance and we ask them if the story was really based on their real-life romance.

“Wala naman kaming romance in real life ni Polo,” says Jean. “But I know people won’t believe us when I say that kasi lagi kami na-kikitang magkasama. Bahala sila.”

“Cliche na nga sabihing close friends, good friends at walang maniniwala pero ganun lang talaga kami as of now,” adds Polo. “Lumalabas kaming magkasama but as friends lang. Walang commitment. Kung meron, aaminin ko naman.”

How come it was reported that they were really on for quite some time but they had to break up because Jean’s daughter, Jennica Garcia, was against their love affair?

“That’s not true,” says Polo. “Magkasundo nga kami ni Jennica and if ever magiging kami ng mommy niya, I don’t think she would object.”

“Sa totoo lang, hindi nakikialam ang daughter ko sa love affairs ko, no?” adds Jean. “At totoong friends din sila ni Polo, pero wala nga siyang dapat pakialaman sa’min ni Polo dahil hindi naman naging kami.”

In “Loving You,” Jean plays Cyrelle, Polo’s teacher in college. Years later, they’ll meet again and Jean is already the creative director of an advertising agency while Polo as Tom works in a call center.

“Teenager pa lang ako in college, crush ko na siya,” says Polo. “But nothing happened between us kasi nga teacher ko siya. But when we meet again, pareho na kaming nagwo-work and we get attracted to each other. Kaya lang, marami siyang reservations because of our age gap so nag-break din kami.”

“But this is a feel-good movie kaya kami pa rin sa ending at na-resolve ko na lahat ng personal problems ko about being involved in a May-December kind of relationship,” Jean adds. “Viewers will love this movie as it shows different kinds of love stories. Bukod sa amin ni Polo, may sarili ring love stories dito sina Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica, John Prats and Ehra Madrigal, and Yasmien Kurdi and JC de Vera. O, di ba ako ang pinakabagets sa kanilang lahat?”
