ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to establish a food innovation center in every region to come up with innovative and add-on products based on the major products of a particular region.
DOST Assistant Secretary Robert Dizon, who attended the three-day Visayas Science and Technology Fair 2013 in Iloilo City that ended Friday, said that in Western Visayas, major agricultural products include sugar, mangoes and rice, which could develop more by-products and add-on materials for the export markets.
These centers will be opened specifically to all small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and researchers and in a way, a major preparation for the looming Association of Southeast Asian Nations integration by 2015.
The Visayas S&T Fair showcased the different science and technology initiatives in the three Visayan regions leading towards Smarter Visayas.
