MANILA, (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas said they finally reached Thursday the municipality of Maribojoc which was isolated after a strong earthquake hit the island province of Bohol last Tuesday morning.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat said Friday that the town was severely hit by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and became isolated when its Abatan Bridge collapsed and main roads severely cracked.
“About 1,100 sacks of family food packs were transferred Thursday afternoon to a river boat which navigated the Abatan River going to the isolated town,” said Jabagat.
Jabagat added that another 300 relief goods were also delivered to the town’s island barangay of Cabawan.
She also noted that the people in the town are having difficulty in sending text messages since they do not have electricity right now.
“We are requesting the private and business sector if they can lend power generator to Maribojoc as well as to the nearby affected towns,” she added.
She thanked individuals who had flocked to the regional office to volunteer in packing relief goods.
She added that 1,850 family food packs and 5,000 pieces of 5.6-liter bottled water were distributed to the heavily affected town of Loon.
Each family food packs contained three kilos of rice and seven assorted canned goods.
Jabagat added that 25 tents were provided to affected families in evacuation centers in Bohol.
