MANILA, (PNA) — Senator Nancy Binay, upon visiting areas in Tagbilaran City, Bohol noticed some stores selling goods at higher prices and urged retailers to strictly follow the price freeze.
The national government imposed the price freeze in areas affected by the 7.2 earthquake that struck Central Visayas last Tuesday.
“I ask these retailers to please stop this practice. Let us not take advantage of this tragedy, let us replace greed with bayanihan,” Binay said.
“The earthquake has left many of our kababayans without homes, food and water. We should all be helping them pick themselves up from this tragedy,” she said.
“Please do not make this any harder for them. I am not appealing for charity, just a little humanity,” she added.
Binay said that she was concerned for mothers who are unable to feed their hungry children because of the high prices of noodles and canned sardines.
She also urged authorities to closely monitor the price freeze in earthquake-hit areas.
