MANILA, (PNA) — Telecommunication company giant Smart Communication has set up Long Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity for use of the Cebu Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council amid the ongoing operations related to the strong earthquake last Tuesday.
Ramon Isberto, Smart public affairs head, said their engineers have set up the LTE at the Cebu Capitol so that all involved in the relief and search and rescue operations could have fast communication.
LTE is the latest standard in the mobile network technology that allows faster downloads and upload speeds of up to 42 Mbps.
“Communications play a crucial rle during and in the aftermath of disaster. That’s why providing fast and timely disaster response support is standard practice for us,” Isberto said.
Isberto said Smart has also provided free calls centers and cellphone recharging stations in identified areas in Cebu and Bohol which provide both rescue workers and affected residents free calls to their relatives.
The center were located at the City Hall and Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City, Bohol; and at the Cebu Capitol.
Smart has also opened its cell site along J. Clarin St. in Tagbilaran City for free mobile phone battery charging. Smart provided volunteer groups such as the Chocolate Hills Amateur Radio League and Tarsier 117 with cellphone load to help in their rescue coordination efforts.
