DSWD releases P6.3-M relief assistance to victims in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, (PNA) -The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided some P6.38 million worth of relief assistance to the victims of typhoon Santi in Central Luzon.

Adelina Apostol, DSWD 3 regional director, said the assistance that came from the agency were released to the local government units and lawmakers of the affected areas in the region.

Of the total assistance, Apostol said Nueva Ecija received P1,275,000; Bulacan, P2,125,000; Tarlac, P1,918,979.76; Pampanga, P944,948.84; and Aurora with P125,000.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, she said a total of P14,684,788.52 from the combined resources of the DSWD and local government units (LGUs) has been released to the affected areas of the region.

Aside from DSWD’s augmentation support to the affected LGUs, the bulk of the assistance came from concerned LGUs amounting to P7,903,959.92 (municipal); P51,900 (provincial); and P340,000 (non-government organizations).

Based on the disaster monitoring report, typhoon Santi has affected 211,308 or 1,002,600 persons from the 71 municipalities in the region’s seven provinces.

Of those affected, 7,009 families or 29,755 persons temporarily stayed at the evacuation centers.

In addition, some 33,602 families or 167,507 persons were served in their respective communities.

Of the 122 evacuation centers opened, 27 remain open serving 1,538 families or 6,587 persons.

Apostol said that as per assessment, the victims will be staying at the evacuation centers for undetermined period before they can return to their respective houses due to their totally destroyed houses.

The typhoon destroyed 66,054 houses broken down as follows: 13,972 totally damaged and 52,082 partially damaged.

Meanwhile, the DSWD assured the LGUs of the department’s continuous support, particularly in the rehabilitation of the affected families through Cash/Food for Work (C/FFW), Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) for families who were rendered homeless by the typhoon.
