MANILA, (PNA) — Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II on Thursday went around Cebu to visit victims and assess the effects of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Central Visayas Tuesday.
Roxas, in an interview broadcast live, expressed sadness after visiting patients at the Cebu City Hospital who evacuated the main building after some portions collapsed during the earthquake.
The DILG chief saw for himself the difficulties experienced by the patients at a makeshift shelter adjacent to the hospital where they were exposed to pollution and immediately ordered their transfer at the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) building next to the medical facility.
“Nakapanglulumo ang kalagayan ng ating mga kababayan kaya ipinalipat natin sila sa mas maayos na lugar,” said Roxas.
“Makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan sa patuloy na tulong ng ating pamahalaan,” he added.
Roxas, who is also vice chairman of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the DILG is now working with other government agencies, particularly the Departments of Health and Social Welfare and Development, in attending to the earthquake-affected people.
Earlier, Roxas also accompanied President Benigno Aquino III in Bohol, the province worst hit by the major quake with more than 150 fatalities.
