BAGUIO CITY, (PNA) — Bishop Carlito Cenzon of the Baguio-Benguet Vicariate has joined the nation and the world in praying for the early recovery of the earthquake victims of the Visayas.
He also lamented the destruction of the old churches in that region, especially those in Cebu and Bohol which bore the brunt of the intensity 7.2 earthquake Tuesday.
”We know how it feels to be in those devastated regions because for once, we were also in the same situation. We pray for the victims early recovery. Let us help them in their rehabilitation,” the bishop said.
Cenzon was referring to the near devastation of this mountain resort 250 kms north of Manila in the afternoon of July 16, 1990 earthquake where more than 600 people died.
That temblor at 7.9 magnitude on the Richter Scale was so powerful that even the five and three star hotels in this city collapsed and, for four days, this city was isolated from the adjoining provinces.
Only by air transportation the first relief goods could be ferried to the country’s mountain resort capital.
