ILOILO CITY, (PNA)-The victory of the Philippine football team Azkals in the recently concluded 2013 Peace Cup is not only for the country’s honor but is also dedicated to victims of the earthquake and Zamboanga siege.
The Philippine Azkals was declared back-to-back champion after they beat the Pakistani team, 3-1 in Tuesday’s game hosted by the Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City as its venue.
Stephan Schrock, a Filipino-German player, said they are dedicating the victory of the national team Azkals to victims of the earthquake in Cebu and Bohol as well as to victims of the recent seige in Zamboanga City.
Team manager of the national team Dan Palami said the victory they have earned would at least lessen the utter sadness felt by our ountrymen following the aftermath of the powerful quake.
The three goals scored by Patrick Reichelt, Chris Greatwich and Schrock during their match with the Pakistani team was the key that sealed Azkal’s victory to retain the championship crown in the Peace Cup.
The Peace Cup is in preparation for the national team in its bid for the big football tournament like the AFC Challenge Cup to be held in Maldives next year.
