Roads and bridges damaged by Central Visayas quake

MANILA, (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that several roads and bridges were damaged by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Central Visayas Region Tuesday morning.

According to DPWH Region 7 Director Ador Canlas, the impassable road sections in the Province of Bohol either due to massive landslide and damaged roadway such as cracks, settlement of asphalt/concrete pavement, and road slips: Cortes-Balilihan-Catigbian-Macaas Road; Tagbilaran East Road Laya Baclayon; Tagbilaran North Road (Km 89.869-Km 89.950); and Loay Interior Road Loboc Section.

The tremor also damaged the following bridges declared impassable: Abatan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, bridge collapse; Camayaan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road in Cortes, bridge approach damage; Tultogan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road in Calape, bridge approach collapse;

Tagbuane Bridge along Tagbilaran East Road in Albur, bridge collapse; Moalong Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, bridge collapse; Hunan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, settlement of bridge approach;

Taguimtim, Damiao and Daet Bridges along Tagbilaran North Road in Buenavista, settlement of bridge approach; Palo, Hinawanan, Bonkokan, Banban, and Panangatan Bridges along Tagbilaran East Road, bridge approaches with cracks/settlement;

Agape Bridge along Loay Interior Road, bridge approaches with cracks.

Two (2) other bridges were damaged but passable namely Suarez Bridge along Dawis Panglao Road and Salog Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road.

The Panangatan River Control, a flood control structure along Tagbilaran East Road was totally damaged.

Historical churches in Bohol that were also damaged are Cortes, Baclayon (collapsed bell tower), Maribooc, Loon, Dawis, and Loboc.

In Cebu, there was apparently pavement cracks sustained by the Carcar-Barili Road (Sta. 45+00), Sibonga-Dumanjug Road (km 57), and occurrence of landslide at Cebu Toledo Wharf Road (km 20).

They are now passable to vehicular traffic.

On the other hand, the DPWH Region 7 is also conducting walk-through inspections in assessing possible damages at Cansaga Bay, Mandaue-Mactan, and Marcelo Fernan Bridges including Subangdaku Flyover and other structures in the said province.

The structures are passable to vehicular traffic.

Aside from the century old Basilica Minore del Santo Nino in Cebu City, also reported with multiple cracks are the Dalaguete Church and Dalaguete Provincial High School

However, no major damage has been reported to date on national buildings in the Province of Cebu.
