SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna (PNA) -– The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)–San Pablo City city on Monday urged barangay leaders here to conduct their respective barangay assemblies in a transparent, apolitical manner like a roadshow of open discussions of issues and concerns, plans, programs and projects in the villages.
DILG City Local Government Operations Officer Marciana S. Brosas also reminded the village leaders to submit their barangay assembly reports immediately to her office.
The city’s 80 barangays have since conducted their respective “Barangay Assemblies” in observance of the “Local Government Month” coinciding with the 22nd observance of the enactment of the Local Governemt Code of 1991 or Republic Act No. 7160.
Brosas saw the need to immediately spell out village concerns and needs in their reports owing to formal turn-overs and assumption of newly-elected or re-elected barangay leaders next month following the Oct. 28 barangay elections.
The DILG city chief said the report also includes the list of participants and attendees, minutes or reports of the barangay assembly and the documentation of the event.
Former President Corazon C. Aquino signed into law Republic Act 7160 or the “Local Government Code” on October 10, 1991.
Since then, San Pablo City has observed city-wide village celebrations to highlight the milestone local administrative and governance law.
The Local Government Code set in place the operationalization and functional mandates of local government units from provinces, cities, towns and barangays.
