CEBU CITY, (PNA) — A total of 213 of the 1,203 barangay captains in Cebu can no longer run for the same position in the Oct. 28 barangay elections after serving three consecutive terms, an election official said.
This means a total of 990 barangay captains can still run for reelection on Oct. 28, Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said.
Castillano said these 213 barangay captains who are no longer eligible for reelection will have to step down at the end of their term on Nov. 30.
Castillano said the new set of barangay officials will assume office the next day.
But Castillano said these outgoing barangay captains may run for other positions such as that of barangay councilor.
Among the local government units (LGUs) with the most number of barangay chiefs who have served three consecutive terms are Cebu City with 16, Danao City with 13 and Argao and Tuburan towns with 10 each.
