CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, (PNA) — The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office has stepped up its campaign against violators of gun ban here as the barangay election nears.
City police operations chief Lemuel Gonda said Operation Kapkap and Operation Bakal had started in September and would end in November 2013.
Aside from establishing mobile checkpoints and random searches, the local police is now also updating the records of local gun holders to verify whether they are still the registered owner of the firearm.
“There were cases that the firearms had been sold to another by the original registered owner which the police were conducting verification,” Gonda said.
He said that the renewal of licenses to own firearms is ongoing but owners are not allowed to carry firearms during the election period for the barangay elections.
